Whole diffrent Selection for Estonia

After the switching places from a general winning country to so far,
a constant looser, Estonia says goodbye to Juhan Paadam who has
being in charge of the Estonian Eurovision entries since 1997, and says hello to Heidy Purga (worked in radio 2).

Juhan Paadam won't be leaving the neighborhood thou, since he will remain in a job with contacts to the EBU.

Heidy Purga will put forward a new system for selecting the Estonian song to Eurovision which will change the selection way and maybe will attract new artists to give it a try.

She thinks that Eurovision music shouldn't be different from the music that the
people listen to everyday, and that artists should be allowed to participate with the music they normally make (I think that consider the nature of Eurovision i don't really think that this is really possible!). She has being a judge in the Estonian pop idol and also worked and done a lot
for Estonian pop music on TV and on the Radio.

The departing Juhan says that as much as participating in the Eurovision looks like fun and party in reality it's a real project with many people involved and also it's one of the most popular Estonian TV shows (I wonder how popular is it now when Estonia shifted from winner to looser)

The New Format: (Rules)
The format of the national final in Estonia will go thought a drastic change of image and will be an entire new show. Eurolaul who functioned as the platform for the selection so far has been retired and has being replaced by "Eesti Laul" which holds an entire different idea of how Estonia will approach their Eurovision selection.

Heydi (who is now the executive producer of the Estonian selection) expects that artists will send songs that associate with themselves and suit the Estonian musical taste rather than marketing a product to the European community and loosing their own style in it. (but than again how can you do it when the Eurovision is in the condition it is now ? the rules of
Eurovision has to change first in order for a song be something that represent a country rather than something that tries to please 500 Million people at once)
and if someday they will decide that they don't want to participate in the Eurovision anymore (is that a threat?) than this contest could still be an important musical event in Estonia rather than just a national final who will is sole purpose is to select a Eurovision entry (Well if you want a festival who will have more Estonian touch rather than something that tries to fit to the European stage i don't think that it can go with Eurovision under the current rules of the game)

ERR have just announced they're open for all Estonian residents to send songs for the contest with the deadline of 08.12.08 and the 10 songs for the contest being chosen by 11.12.08 which this year the juries who will make the decision will be able to know who wrote each song unlike previous years when they had to choose out of songs they didn't knew who made them.

The Songs selected will be announced on a special show on the Estonian television ETV, and will be presented to the Estonian people through a series of TV shows on 07.02.09, 14.02.09, 21.02.09 & 28.02.09 and the Final show will be the National final with the voting method being announced on the 07.02.09 and the order of the songs in the National final on the 28.02.09.

"It will be the biggest TV-show series which will promote local pop-music, Hopefully we can now and in the future offer the best Estonian songs to Estonian people" says Head of Entertainment Mart Normet (Don't build your hopes too high before you have seeing how the entire thing actually catching up, cause you might abolish the entire thing next year if Estonia will fail to qualify again for the final)
